Moni Ovadia
Nato in Bulgaria da una famiglia ebraico-sefardita, si è formato come cantante di musica popolare. Dal 1984 si dedica al teatro avviando una serie di collaborazioni con numerose personalità della scena, dando vita a un “teatro musicale” lungo il quale ancora oggi opera la sua ricerca espressiva. Nel 1993 con Oylem Goylem, una creazione di teatro musicale in forma di cabaret, si impone all’attenzione del grande pubblico e della critica giornalistica. Seguiranno molti altri spettacoli di successo: Dybbuk, Ballata di fine millennio, Il caso Kafka, Mame,mamele,mamma,mamà… Il Banchiere errante, L’Armata a cavallo, Le storie del Sig.Keuner, Il Violinista sul tetto, la Bella utopia, solo per citarne alcuni, fino ai più recenti Le Supplici di Eschilo, Liolà di Pirandello e Dio ride, nish koshe. Per il cinema ha lavorato con Nanni Moretti, Mario Monicelli, Roberto Andò, Roberto Faenza e altri. Radio, dischi, libri, lezioni universitarie, affiancano la sua attività principale. Per 5 anni è stato Direttore Artistico di Mittelfest, ilFestival della cultura mitteleuropea di Cividale del Friuli. Dal mese di marzo 2021 è Direttore della Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Ferrara. Nel corso di questi anni gli sono stati conferiti numerosi premi alla carriera e all’impegno civile. Più di una laurea honoris causa gli è stata conferita da diverse Università italiane.
Moni Ovadia oggi è considerato uno dei più prestigiosi e popolari uomini di cultura e artisti della scena italiana. Il suo teatro musicale, ispirato alla cultura yiddish che ha contribuito a fare conoscere e di cui ha dato una lettura contemporanea, è unico nel suo genere, in Italia e in Europa. Il suo pubblico abbraccia tutte le generazioni.
È noto anche per il suo costante impegno etico e civile a sostegno dei diritti e della pace.
