Sorj Chalandon
(Tunisi, 1952) Ha lavorato dal 1974 al 2007 come corrispondente e reporter del quotidiano francese Libération, documentando alcuni dei conflitti più sanguinosi degli ultimi decenni: è stato in Iraq, Iran, Somalia e Afghanistan, e a Beirut nel 1982, dove fu tra i testimoni dell’eccidio nel campo profughi palestinese di Sabra e Chatila: “è lì – ha confessato – che ho serbato in me ciò che un uomo abbandona mentre cammina nel sangue di altri esseri umani. Un giornalista deve essere in grado di raccontare la guerra senza cedere al pianto, e io non ho pianto. (…) Così ho deciso di affidare a Georges le mie lacrime, la mia collera, i miei dubbi, lasciando soprattutto che si spingesse là dove io non mi ero spinto, oltre ciò che la guerra strappa agli uomini”. Georges è il protagonista del romanzo Le Quatrième mur (Gasset 2013, Prix Goncourt des lycéens, ora in adozione nella scuole francesi), scritto molti anni dopo quel massacro e tradotto in italiano con il titolo La quarta parete (Keller 2016), PREMIO TERZANI 2017. Tra gli altri suoi romanzi, tradotti in numerosi paesi: Il mio traditore (Mondadori 2009) e Chiederò perdono ai sogni (Keller 2014).
