Ai Weiwei
È uno dei più importanti e poliedrici artisti viventi. Insieme al padre, il celebre poeta cinese Ai Qing, ha conosciuto durante l’infanzia il confino nella Cina della Rivoluzione Culturale. Dopo un periodo di formazione negli Stati Uniti, dove ha incrociato Allen Ginsberg e scoperto le opere di Andy Warhol e Marcel Duchamp, nel 2011, all’apice del successo artistico, è stato incarcerato senza processo nel suo Paese e sottoposto per 81 giorni a una serie di interrogatori assurdi. Rilasciato, anche grazie alla mobilitazione internazionale via Internet, solo nel 2015 ha riottenuto il passaporto. Oggi vive tra Regno Unito e Portogallo. Con il suo ultimo progetto artistico, “Ai vs AI”, per 81 giorni di seguito ha posto altrettante domande all’intelligenza artificiale dagli schermi pubblici di grandi città. Nel memoir Mille anni di gioie e dolori, pubblicato in Italia da Feltrinelli nella traduzione dall’inglese di Katia Bagnoli, racconta la sua storia e il processo ideativo delle sue sorprendenti installazioni.
