vicino/lontano - identity and difference
in a time of conflict • This initiative is designed to encourage reflection on cultural relations and conflict in today’s globalized world through a series of public debates, exhibitions and entertainment events. • Leading international scholars, writers and artists come together to discuss the key issues of our times from a variety of perspectives and disciplinary approaches. • New economic challenges and ancient backwardness, the social and cultural impact of migration, the denial of rights and the human cost of progress, environmental sustainability and the problem of natural resources, terrorism and war, democracy and its variant forms, religion and politics, the media and the reliability of information: these are some of the key themes of our times that the Vicino/Lontano festival aims to address. With contributions from eminent guests from the world of culture, economics and media, Vicino/Lontano aims to create a public forum for discussion that will prompt us to examine and question the paradigms on which both “our” cultural and economic certainties and universalist claims are based.
