Our projects • vicino/lontano – Identity and difference in a time of conflict
May - This annual festival addresses the theme of cultural relations and conflict in today’s globalized world through a series of debates, talks, “in conversations”, lectures, meetings, public readings, recitals, concerts, exhibitions and film screenings held over three days in venues across the city. The theme is explored from a variety of perspectives and disciplinary approaches with contributions from scholars, writers and artists of international standing. The 4th edition of vicino/lontano – identity and difference in a time of conflict will take place in Udine on May 15th-18th, 2007. • The International Terzani Literary Prize
May – The prize is awarded to the author of a work (essay or reportage) that explores themes related to cultural relations, diversity and conflict. The prize is presented during a gala evening attended by a host of distinguished guests from the world of culture and entertainment. On the morning of the same day, during a fun-packed programme of activities and events put together by and for the younger generation, the winners of the Terzani Schools Competion, which is run in conjunction with the Terzani Prize, are announced. The 2008 Tiziano Terzani Literary Award ceremony will take place in Udine on May 17th, 2008. • Fuorirotta - Off the beaten track
November - The event aims to provide travellers and aspiring travellers the opportunity to meet, exchange views, share information, tips and experiences. Travel writers, reporters and artists of international standing will contribute to a rich programme of travel-related events including exhibitions, talks, seminars, film screenings from professional and amateur filmmakers, concerts, public readings and book presentations. The 3rd edition of Fuorirotta took place in Udine on November 8th-11th, 2007. • Il cortile delle parole - The yard of words
Ongoing - This event runs throughout the year and consists of a series of talks organized in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy of the University of Udine with contributions from distinguished guests from the world of culture and scientific research. Each talk will focus on a basic “word” – beauty, mind, frontiers, fundamentalism – which will then be re-defined and re-contextualized from a variety of perspectives informed by both philosophical-scientific thinking and daily experience, with the aim of discovering new nuances of meaning. OTHER INITIATIVES • Contributions from our Scientific Committee and some of our prestigious guest-speakers are presented in the vicino/lontano book series published by Forum Editrice • A special section entitled vicino/lontano, featuring the most important contributions to vicino/lontano – Identity and difference in a time of conflict, is published twice yearly in Aut aut, Italy’s leading philosophical journal • To support and complement the themes explored during the Teatro Contatto theatre season, promoted by CSS – Teatro Stabile di Innovazione FVG, the Association organizes a series of talks with contributions from leading scholars and experts from a variety of specialist backgrounds • In recognition of the originality and cultural significance of the Vicino/lontano initiative, the Association was invited to take part in the “InnovAction 2007” innovation fair.
